Gateley Legal signs memorandum of understanding with the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan

We have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on legal matters with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The document was signed by Uzbekistan Minister of Justice Ruslanbek Davletov and Oliver Harker, a partner in our Corporate team, on June 27 at a ceremony held at the Law Society.

Richard Healey, a partner in our Restructuring team, is spearheading the group’s push to secure work in Russia, Ukraine and The Commonwealth of Independent States. He said: “This is an important first step for Gateley Legal in the Republic of Uzbekistan as we look to assist the Uzbek people on their journey towards economic prosperity.

“This news serves to underline or commitment to provide corporate and financial expertise to the government of Uzbekistan. Over the last two years the country has undergone a radical transformation and the need to move to a free market economy opens up real investment opportunities for UK businesses.”

Minister Davletov commented: “This is wonderful news for the people of Uzbekistan as it opens up new opportunities to drive economic growth. We are pleased to have a memorandum of understanding in place with Gateley Legal. Their broad range of legal expertise will be a real asset and I look forward to building on our relationship over the coming months.”

Oliver Harker will lead on the work for Gateley Legal in Uzbekistan with support from consultant Alex Woodfield, who has 20 years’ experience operating and working with clients in this market.
