Tax incentives advisory business Gateley Capitus has opened an office in Northern Ireland. The new office is located in the heart of Belfast’s central business district at Imperial House, Donegall Square.

Led by directors Aubrey Calderwood and Kevin Meyer, Gateley Capitus offers clients a full range of Treasury-backed incentives available for investment in real estate assets and research and development activities, including capital allowances and R&D tax relief.

Aubrey Calderwood said: “The new office allows us to better serve our growing client base in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, providing local businesses, inward investors, solicitors, accountants and surveying practices with the specialist services they need.

“In a climate where companies’ tax affairs are coming under increased scrutiny, we help clients understand and claim the tax breaks and incentives they are entitled to. This frees up cash for reinvestment in growing their businesses.”

Gateley Capitus is the wholly owned subsidiary of national commercial law firm Gateley Plc. Gateley acquired Gateley Capitus in April 2016, its first acquisition since becoming a listed company in June 2015. The acquisition is part of Gateley’s growth strategy, which includes moving into new geographic markets and diversifying its client offer through the addition of complementary services.

Gateley CEO Michael Ward said: “Having just announced another year of double-digit growth, this move is further evidence of Gateley’s continued development. Adding Gateley Capitus to our business has been a well-received move, with clients and contacts attracted by our ability to offer a wider range of services. Opening in Belfast is the next exciting step.”

The new Belfast office takes the total number of offices operating under the ‘Gateley’ brand to 12. Gateley has a strong track record for moving into new markets. The firm opened an office in Reading in December 2016 to service clients in the Thames Valley region. It now has a team including four partners handling a range of legal matters, including corporate, corporate recovery and family law.

In 2012, Gateley opened in Leeds and now boasts 50 people, including 11 partners, offering a full range of services to clients in the region. In addition to Belfast and Leeds, Gateley Plc has offices in Birmingham, Dubai, Leicester, London, Manchester, Nottingham, and Reading. In Scotland, with offices in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow, the firm operates as HBJ Gateley.
