National law firm, Gateley Plc, has continued to expand its Manchester offering with the appointment of new Restructuring partner, Stuart Tait, who will work alongside head of department and partner, Andrew Buchanan, and the existing Restructuring team.

He joins the firm from Hogan Lovells, where he spent the past 11 years in London and Hong Kong – the last two years spent as the resident Hong Kong partner – after qualifying with Clifford Chance in London.

Stuart, who has 15 years’ experience as a lawyer, has a full spectrum of high level corporate restructuring skills, including lender advice, board advisory and alternative finance. He has advised clients in various sectors, from lending syndicates to banks and other financial institutions on voluntary and involuntary restructurings.

Andrew Buchanan, partner at Gateley Plc, commented: “We are expanding our offering in this practice area and Stuart’s appointment is an important part of that plan. He is an example of the quality of talent that we are able to attract with a wealth of experience, not only from his time in Hong Kong but also from Clifford Chance in London, where he started his restructuring career. He will bring invaluable international restructuring experience to our regional, as well as our national network. We’re delighted to welcome him on board.

“We believe that the current economic conditions create significant opportunities for high calibre and skilled professionals in the corporate and financial restructuring arena. Gateley Plc is continuing to grow its presence in this area in a number of regions.”

Stuart Tait added: “Joining Gateley Plc is an attractive prospect for me; not only does the firm have a fantastic reputation for corporate recovery and restructuring in the UK market, it’s incredibly ambitious, which is reflected in the success the firm has had in the first couple of years since floating.

“Being based at the Manchester office is especially exciting for me personally, as it allows me to return to my roots in the North West. I look forward to immersing myself into the market while being part of a strong national network.”

Stuart was recently named as a ‘notable practitioner’ in the restructuring sector by legal directory Chambers and Partners.

Gateley Plc’s Corporate Recovery team offers a full range of non-contentious services to banks, finance companies, venture capitalists and insolvency practitioners.
