Construction

Gateley Plc’s dedicated Construction team provides a comprehensive and practical service to a broad range of industry players and is equipped to deal with construction, engineering and infrastructure projects of any size.

Our advice covers every aspect of the development process – from inception to completion, through to resolving any issues and disputes that arise during the course of the project or subsequently.

We have experienced specialist teams dedicated to advising on transactions and disputes on a national level providing full legal support to contractors, developers and housebuilders including the UK’s top 10 housebuilders, Jaguar Land Rover and MPact (the JV of Laing O’Rourke and Volkerrail delivering the Manchester Metrolink Phase 3 extension), as well as Everton FC, Manchester City FC and Lancashire County Cricket Club. We also advise banks that are lending on construction projects, acting for HSBC, RBS and Lloyds Banking Group among others.

Our contract advice work typically ranges from drafting bespoke documents for national developers and housebuilders, advising site owners and developers on the procurement of construction projects through to advising main contractors, sub-contractors and construction professionals on the negotiation of contracts. We provide full legal support in resolving any disputes that may arise through litigation, arbitration, adjudication, mediation and negotiation with team members including a District Judge, a Fellow of the CIArb and three accredited mediators. This wealth of experience and expertise means we play a valuable role in ensuring our clients projects are delivered smoothly in the timescales required.

In addition to UK construction, we have considerable experience in dealing with construction projects on an international level, handling both transactional and dispute-resolution work whether through the UK or our office in Dubai.

Our construction practice also has the leading UK team advising surety providers. We act for many major surety companies – including Zurich, Aviva and QBE – on the provision of bonds, dealing both with the drafting of construction and other specialised bonds and any disputes arising under them.
