A day in the life of a Gateley Hamer consultant
What does your day-to-day work consist of?
Day to day work at Gateley Hamer is varied and graduates are given the opportunity to be involved in a number of projects across the three teams - Compulsory Purchase, Infrastructure Development and Utility Compensation.
A typical day can consist of assisting in report writing, property valuations, lease renewals, site visits, client meetings, property and compensation assessments and more. I’m regularly involved in correspondence with clients and updating them with our progress and advice going forward. I often research and gather information for our projects and I use a number of information services such as Costar, EIG, Molior, and LandInsight to support my work and find opportunities for new work.
Whilst working and gaining experience, I continue to progress towards membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) by completing the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC). I am on the Commercial Real Estate Pathway and my work is varied to ensure I gain enough experience for my chosen competencies.
Has there been a particular highlight for you whilst with Gateley Hamer?
A particular highlight of mine is being involved in conflict avoidance, management and dispute resolution procedures. With little knowledge of the subject after graduating from university, I have been fortunate enough to be involved in assisting in work for Tribunal cases, attending the High Court and regular meetings with a number of different experts from QCs, planners, valuers and architects. To be able to be part of the process and attend meetings with experts in their fields is a great opportunity to learn in a number of different areas and gain valuable experience for my professional career as well as my APC.
