Gateley Plc appoints two partners to launch new Employment offering in Leeds

Gateley Plc, the legal business of law-led professional services group Gateley, has further expanded its Yorkshire presence with the appointment of its first Employment partners to the Leeds office; Paul Ball and Gearalt Fahy.

The firm’s Leeds office has enjoyed significant success since its launch in 2012. The office opened with just five people and now employs more than 70 staff including 16 partners covering Banking & Finance, Financial Disputes & Regulation, Restructuring, Corporate, Regulatory, Dispute Resolution, Residential Development, Construction, and Real Estate. Employment is the latest service line to be added to the rapidly growing team.

Paul and Gearalt join Gateley Plc from 3volution Ltd where they were both partners.

Paul has over 20 years’ experience advising employers on all aspects of employment law, in particular discrimination issues, contractual issues arising on business transfers, as well as significant experience of delivering in-house client training. Prior to 3volution, he held positions at Eversheds and DLA Piper, as well as experience as acting in-house employment counsel at Sodexo Limited.

Gearalt has almost 18 years’ experience in advising employers on complex and strategic legal work. He has particular expertise in the protection of business interests and the enforcement of contract terms post termination, with significant practice in the construction, engineering, energy and mining sectors. Previous firms include Ford & Warren and Watson Burton.

Additionally, the Leeds Commercial Dispute Resolution team has hired partner Gavin Winter, from Watson Burton LLP. Gavin has more than 17 years’ experience handling disputes of all varieties, including both commercial and contractual disputes, negligence actions and property litigation.

The news follows the appointment of director Steve Asher, launching a new service offering in Global Mobility, which encompasses the management of employees on international assignments, covering a mix of employment law, immigration advice, international HR, tax and social security planning, as well as talent management. The development of Global Mobility is part of Gateley’s growth strategy, which was introduced when the company listed on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange in 2015, to diversify through organic growth and acquisitions of complementary non-legal businesses. Steve will be working closely with the newly established Leeds Employment team.
