The UK’s first publicly-quoted law firm, Gateley Plc, is celebrating a double success following award wins for two of its upcoming lawyers, Leigh Whittaker and Kate Oliver.
Corporate lawyer Leigh Whittaker was a winner at the Insider North West Young Professionals Awards 2016, bagging the Young Lawyer of the Year Award. The awards celebrate the most impressive performers in the region, aged 35 or younger.
The judges described Leigh as a “go-to person”, willing to step outside his comfort zone. Leigh, who trained with Gateley, has formed strong relationships with both colleagues and clients. His entry demonstrated “integrity, tenacity, strong leadership qualities”, with an impressive deal history to match, including the sale of La Tasca to Casual Dining Group.
Gateley’s second win was at the Birmingham Law Society Awards. The awards celebrate the finest legal talent in Birmingham and saw regulatory solicitor Kate Oliver take home the Assistant/Associate Solicitor of the Year Award, seeing off lawyers from Sydney Mitchell, Squire Patton Boggs, Irwin Mitchell and DWF.
Gateley Plc works through a network of seven English offices based in Birmingham, Leeds, Leicester, London, Manchester, Nottingham and Reading. Earlier this month, Gateley announced its acquisition of tax-specialist Capitus, now Gateley Capitus. This is the first acquisition since the firm became the first UK-based law firm to float on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange.
