Nick Emmerson, Leeds-based Corporate partner at Gateley Plc, has become the latest representative for the Leeds constituency on the national Law Society Council, the governing body for the Law Society.

Nick will now serve a four year term and has already expressed his desire to be a strong voice for Leeds at the Council. The role of the Council includes agreeing the strategic structure of the Law Society’s work, the position of the Society on major policy issues and setting the budget.

Commenting on his appointment, Nick said: “I am delighted to have been elected to sit on the Council and I want solicitors in Leeds to know that I am serious about being a strong voice for them at the Council.

“As my own firm, Gateley, continues to grow stronger in the city, I am aware of the challenges lawyers in Leeds face. I also want those lawyers to be aware that I am here for them to discuss these issues with and hopefully we will be able to work together for the better.”

Earlier this year, Gateley Plc became the first UK commercial law firm to float on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange. The company raised £30 million as part of its listing and was valued at £100 million on first day of dealings.
