Georgia qualified into the Employment team in March 2020, having completed her training contract at Gateley Legal. She assists the Leeds and Manchester employment teams on all aspects of employment law.
Georgia regularly assists clients with a variety of contentious and non-contentious matters including advising on day-to-day employment issues, such as drafting employment contracts, grievance and disciplinary investigations, dismissals, redundancies (including collective consultation obligations), managing sickness absence and reviewing and updating internal policies. She provides advice to a range of corporate clients through dedicated helpline services, including a large international retail client. Georgia also advises individuals in relation to exit terms and settlement agreements.
Georgia has already gained significant experience in supporting a number of corporate clients in various industry sectors in successfully defending complicated Employment Tribunal proceedings involving issues such as unlawful discrimination, equal pay and whistleblowing.
Georgia also assists on corporate matters in share and asset sales, including conducting due diligence, support on TUPE exercises and drafting contractual documentation for executives.
- Completed a 4-month in-house secondment in the legal team at Marshalls Plc; assisting the business on all in-house matters, including advising on and negotiating commercial contracts, reviewing property leases and licences, advising on commercial disputes (including assisting with the defence, counterclaim and mediation of a high-value breach of contract High Court claim), insurance-related queries, GDPR issues, Companies House filings and due diligence on acquisitions.
- Assisting counsel in one of the first video Employment Tribunal hearings in 2020 (as a result of Covid-19) when advising a client on an unfair dismissal claim. The claim was successfully defended and dismissed.
- Advising a client on a complex whistleblowing matter, assisting counsel in a video hearing and successfully defending the claim.
- Attending case management preliminary hearings in claims involving unfair dismissal (including constructive unfair dismissal), unlawful discrimination and unlawful deductions from wages.
