John specialises in advising banks, building societies and other financial institutions on a wide range of contentious matters including guarantee claims, security enforcement (including mortgage possession proceedings), asset recovery, fraud and professional negligence claims.
John also assists clients with complaints to the Financial Services Ombudsman and defends claims brought against them in relation to allegations of mis-selling financial products and breaches of contract.
- Advising on Clydesdale Bank Plc v Stoke Place Hotel Ltd & Ors  EWHC 181 (Ch) (07 February 2017) and  All ER (D) 21 (Feb). Acting for the successful claimant, Clydesdale Bank Plc, in a substantial action against company directors and former bank official involving allegations of deceit and conspiracy. Summary judgment obtained for £17m against the former bank employee in 2015 and judgment for £14m obtained at trial against a company director in 2017.
- Advising on Rankine v American Express Services Europe Ltd  CCLR 3. Acting for a successful claimant following a multi-party trial involving 5 separate linked matters with issues raised as to the enforceability of CCA regulated agreements.
