Nick is a corporate lawyer and specialises in advising both public and private companies on mergers and acquisitions, private equity and equity capital markets. He acts for a wide range of corporate clients, from Yorkshire to the USA to North-East Asia. Nick predominately works on transactions involving UK and international companies investing in the UK and overseas.

Nick is qualified to practice law in England and Wales, the State of California, Hong Kong and the Republic of Ireland.

He trained in London and practiced in Tokyo for five years before returning to London. He later moved firm and practiced in Leeds, Hong Kong, Shanghai and then London. Nick joined Gateley in 2013. 

Nick has spent a total of ten years in North-East Asia and first went to Japan to study at university in 1990. 

In Tokyo, he was a founding member of the Tokyo office of a large international law firm. Nick speaks Japanese and spent time on secondment at a global Japanese trading company.

He was a founding partner of the Hong Kong office of another large international law firm. Nick also managed the Shanghai office and worked with clients on investments both to and from China.

How do you help clients?

I advise UK and international clients with their investments overseas and can rely on the network of international law firms that I have helped create at Gateley. I also advise UK and international clients on doing business in the UK. The UK regional office network at Gateley provides clients with excellent local support and knowledge.


  1. Advising Astley Baker Davies Limited on the partial sale of Pepper Pig to eOne (Canadian-headquartered global entertainment corporation).
  2. Advising WH Ireland on the recommended takeover of Waterman Group Plc (LSE main market listed company) by CTI Engineering Co., Ltd. (TSE section 1 Japanese listed company).
  3. Advising Inspired Energy Plc (AIM listed company) on various placings and public company matters.
  4. Advising on various LSE main market, AIM and NEX Exchange initial public offerings (IPOs).
  5. Advising various USA, Japanese, Chinese and Hong Kong companies on their confidential investments in the UK and overseas.
