More about our services
Our approach to litigation
When dealing with any piece of litigation, we recognise that our clients need to achieve commercial outcomes and deliver against organisational objectives. We are experienced in addressing these objectives for our clients, including:
- Managing regulatory risk: any issue for a client will have a wider regulatory context so litigation and regulatory risk need to be proactively managed
- Protecting our clients’ reputation: regardless of value, any individual matter can have a wider impact on a client's customer base, products and brand. We help to manage that risk by ensuring that a resolution is achieved.
- Providing cost certainty: we are committed to providing certainty and transparency of costs through a range of fixed, capped or staged fees which can be tailored to each client.
We have an innovative and flexible approach to funding and a unique appetite to deploy innovative funding solutions as a direct consequence of being a Plc. As a business, we will act on an “at risk” basis concerning assignments generated from both the domestic market and overseas, an increasing draw for foreign and offshore clients.
We have a significant amount of experience in advising on high value and complex matters including obtaining and defending without notice injunctions for our clients, including search orders and doorstep delivery-up orders. Find out more about our commercial litigation service.
We are specialists in healthcare matters, particularly claims against NHS Trusts including seeking Judicial Review of decisions made by the trusts; declaratory relief of matters of policy; and injunctions and damages claims on behalf of healthcare professionals.
Property dispute resolution
We regularly handle property disputes across a wide range of sectors, including housebuilders, corporate occupiers, property developers and investors amongst others. We act, for example, in connection with break notices; dilapidations; forfeiture; land registration disputes; issues relating to landlord's consent; lease renewals; possession claims; recovery of rent and other arrears; rights to light and other easement disputes; service charge issues; property related insolvency; nuisance and trespass issues and restrictive covenants. We are particularly well known and highly regarded for advising and representing national housebuilders and we frequently act for a wide range of other corporates, including investors, asset management companies and retailers. International dispute resolution
Within our general dispute resolution capability, we have a specialist team dedicated to complex and international dispute resolution.
We are committed to pursuing complex high value international and domestic dispute resolution, including both litigation and arbitration, often involving elements of fraud. Clients we regularly act for include high net worth individuals, international accountancy firms, UK and overseas banks and other large national and multinational corporate and institutional clients as well as overseas governments. Fraud & financial services disputes
A particular strength concerns litigation against professionals, directors, trustees and other fiduciaries. In relation to this element of our practice, we have a very strong relationship with HMRC’s special investigations team.
We also have complementary, and increasingly recognised, expertise concerning banking and finance litigation, asset finance and recovery, regulatory and insurance litigation (including associated fraud).
The aggregate value of claims currently being investigated and pursued by our cross-disciplinary team is in the hundreds of millions of pounds and we have succeeded in obtaining both notable court successes and multi-million-pound settlements for clients in the past 12 months. We achieve quick commercial solutions to intellectual property disputes in relation to hard and soft IP: patents, registered and unregistered design rights, copyright, trademarks, passing off, and trade libel. Find out more about our IP disputes service.
