The UK pensions landscape is complex and facing challenging times post-coronavirus and post-Brexit. In 2019 many people close to the pensions sector were frustrated by the lack of progress in key areas with many calling for reform. Going forward, many commentators expect there to be a sharper focus on transparency, data and reporting. Dealing with these challenges – whether you are an employer or trustee – requires professional pensions advice from pensions experts.

More about our services

Who do we act for?

Our client base continues to grow and includes a wide range of local, national and international clients across a number of different sectors including industrial engineering, pharmaceuticals and financial services. The schemes that we advise include defined benefit schemes with assets ranging from £500,000 to over £3bn, defined contribution occupational pension schemes, contract-based schemes, small self-administered schemes and self-invested personal pensions.

An important focus for our practice is on providing an exceptional quality of service to pension schemes at the middle and smaller end of the market (typically schemes holding under £300m of assets). These are the schemes which now represent a significant part of the market, but which have suffered historically because they have not had access to high quality advice and solutions provided in a cost-efficient manner. Through our client focused approach and using economies of scale developed from our extensive experience in this area, we provide an unparalleled level of service which is tailored for each client.

We advise on all aspects of pensions law, from advising trustees on the day-to-day management of their pension schemes to advising on the legal aspects of major projects and transactions. See all of the pension services that we offer.

Independent trustee services

Our pension trustee company, Entrust, celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2019. Through Entrust we act as trustee of a wide range of occupational pension schemes. For example, we have helped more than 20 clients on a collective basis to:

  • manage their liabilities by running the first ever multi-scheme MUMS exercise in the UK;
  • simplify the administration of their schemes by running a consolidated trivial commutation exercise; and
  • implement a GDPR compliance package.

Pension sureties

We have taken a central role in the development of pension bonds, working closely with regulatory authorities and advising leading sureties on several substantial pension bonds. We have advised on pension bonds totalling over £1bn.
