We are excited to bring together two fantastic speakers to share their experience of what it takes to lead a successful team and grow a successful business. Whether it’s leading Olympic and Paralympic sports organisations or helping to build a £1bn business, John and Steve will share their experience of lessons learned in leadership from the world of sport and business.

John Steele will share his experience as a professional athlete, sports coach, Chief Executive and NED on how leaders can navigate the new and demanding challenges of modern-day leadership. Whilst Steve Hewitt will share his story on the superpowers of leadership that are required to build a unicorn and how these can be used in any organisation to create a successful growth culture.

Meet our speakers

John Steele OBE

Founder of leadership consultancy Unforgiving Minute and Chair of Commonwealth Games England

As a professional rugby player John played over 400 first class games including matches against Australia, New Zealand and South Africa before coaching and successfully leading Northampton Saints to become European Champions. His experience in Rugby Union also saw him serve on the England Rugby Board during the successful World Cup campaign of 2003 and be appointed as CEO of the Rugby Football Union. The winning of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics bid saw John take up post as CEO of UK Sport. His tenure through the Beijing Games and lead into the London Games saw unprecedented results for Team GB. He has had leadership roles in ten different Olympic and Paralympic games. 

Steve Hewitt

Unicorn Builder/ Former CEO of Gymshark/ Founder of Whanau/ Non Exec Chair @Passenger

Steve joined Gymshark in June 2014 as an external advisor, before becoming CEO the following year and overseeing the company’s growth from £4m to £500m turnover in his six years in role. Before joining Gymshark, Steve held several senior executive positions at Reebok, most notably as Commercial Director for the EMEA region. Founder of Whanau Advisory, Steve is their strategy & commercial lead specialising in North Star creation, global scaling, CEO advisory, leadership and communication.
