Banking & financial services

Advising borrowers and lenders on financing throughout the corporate lifecycle – from business start up, through growth and expansion, to maturity, transition and exit

We advise businesses on banking and financial matters throughout their lifecycle, from start-up to exit, dealing with all aspects of managing the financial and governance responsibilities along the way.

We act for lenders across the sector, providing end-to-end advice which helps our clients to manage risk and comply with regulatory requirements. Our borrower client base encompasses a wide variety of organisations including large corporates, owner-managed businesses, property developers and investors, many of whom we have had a close ongoing relationship with for a number of years.

Business start up

Starting a business can be thrilling and vastly rewarding – but it can also be all-consuming and full of challenges. Business owners need advisers that partner with them; we adapt our approach to banking and finance advice to best suit each individual organisation, to minimise risk and maximise cashflow. We are even able to help clients investing into the UK from overseas to navigate the process of setting-up a UK business bank account.

We understand that banks play a vital role in facilitating transactions and projects, and our experts advise many of the leading banks and financial institutions, providing the full range of banking services from corporate lending to restructuring and recovery. The financial services sector regulatory landscape can be difficult to navigate for lenders, established businesses and start-ups alike; our straight-talking advisers help to cut through the red tape and address any compliance challenges faced by our clients.

Growth and expansion

For a business to grow takes a great deal of hard work and the right advice at the right time. Experienced, commercially aware and pragmatic advisers can be the key difference in a successful financing.

Whether you are a growing business seeking to raise finance from a specialist funder, traditional lender, or private equity house, or you are an established organisation looking to refinance or restructure facilities, you need to work with advisers that have the experience to identify the debt structure best suited to your strategic objectives. We have many years’ experience of advising borrowers across different sectors on the terms of facility and security documentation for development, trade, real estate, invoice, investment and acquisition finance. The growing international reach of our business increasingly involves us in complex, cross-border transactions and we advise on Sharia-compliant facilities as well as traditional debt structures.

We support lenders and financial institutions as they support expanding businesses, advising on all aspects of their businesses, spanning product development and documentation, portfolio management and transaction execution and recovery, whether through restructuring or a formal insolvency process.

Maturity, transition and exit

We also support our clients in times of transition, advising on the preservation of assets as well as possible turnaround solutions for businesses in distress, either inside or outside of a formal insolvency process. We act for many of the leading funds, investors and financial institutions as well as working closely with their other preferred advisers and insolvency practitioners. Our team includes specialists in restructuring, mainstream transactional and contentious insolvency work and a team dedicated to overseas insolvency litigation.

Once a business is mature then the focus shifts to maximising profit margins, running the business efficiently, and meeting the demands of the customer base so that if and when the time comes to exit, it is in the best possible position to make the most of any opportunities.

A different stage in the corporate lifecycle means different objectives and factors to be considered with regards to funding. We advise mature businesses and those that lend to them on the most appropriate banking facilities to match their risk profile and strategic needs.
