We are pleased to announce that trainee solicitor, Warren Polly, will be representing the Institute of Professional Legal Studies Belfast (IPLS) as part of the UK team in the Florida finals of the prestigious Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition in April 2024.

Warren was selected by the IPLS, along with two of his university peers, Caitriona Fitzpatrick (Maclaine & Co Solicitors) and Harry Robinson (Phoenix Law) to represent the UK.

Organised by the Institute of Biodiversity Law and Policy of Stetson University, the Stetson Moot Court Competition focuses on important global environmental challenges and has been bringing together law students from universities all over the globe since 1996.

After competing in the UK and Ireland regional rounds, which included a written submission in November 2023 and an oral advocacy in Dublin in February 2024, the team will now represent the IPLS and UK in the 28th Annual International Finals in Gulfport, Florida which is taking place from 10-13 April 2024.

Following the regional rounds, Warren said: “It’s an absolute honour to be representing both the UK and the IPLS in this International Competition. I’m really enjoying the experience alongside my teammates, and I am very grateful for the support that my Gateley Legal NI colleagues have shown us. We are also extremely thankful for all the training and coaching provided by barristers Thomas Stewart and Ben Lowry, whose expertise in guiding us and developing our skills has been invaluable.”

Alison Reid, partner and office head of Gateley Legal in Northern Ireland, said: “This is the first time Gateley Legal NI has been involved in an International Moot Court Competition and we’re very proud of Warren. Not only are we thrilled to have a representative from our business but it’s great to be able to come together and collaborate with other Belfast firms too. We’re behind the team all the way and are hoping for a first UK win.”
