Our Birmingham office is inspiring the next generation of legal professionals thanks to a partnership with social enterprise company, Ahead Partnership.
We welcomed fifteen Year 9 students from Swanhurst school, Great Barr Academy and Ark Kings school and tasked them with developing their very own Street Food business.
Professional advisors from across Gateley Legal supported students as they worked through a series of challenges taking into account the legal considerations needed when starting up a business.
The students then presented their ideas to selected partners at Gateley Legal with the winning students all receiving retail vouchers. Pupils from Ark Kings School were the overall winners of the competition. Named ‘Moving Foodies’ their concept was a London double decker bus, which fused Indian and British cuisine with design.
Victoria Garrad, HR partner in the Birmingham office of Gateley Legal, said: “We thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with Ahead Partnership on this initiative. The students had a great time and left with an ambition for success thanks to my colleagues.
“The day gave students a fantastic insight into the legal sector at a time when they’re thinking about the next stage in their career. It helped them understand what skills are needed for a career in law and shed light on various career paths within the industry.”
Ahead Partnership aims to engage, inspire and motivate young people to gain the necessary key skills for the work place and future employment.
Stephanie Burras CBE, Chief Executive at Ahead Partnership, commented: “This challenge at Gateley’s offices helped the students gain confidence, knowledge and raised their future career aspirations. The day definitely broadened their perspectives and all the students that took part reported that it improved their knowledge of the different types of careers available in the West Midlands.”
