We are celebrating reaching a team of more than 100 people in our Leeds office.

Since opening in January 2012, the office which started with just six members of staff including 2 partners now employs 104 legal professionals, having taken on 42 new members of staff since January 2018 alone, making it the third largest office within the Gateley network.

From its premises at Minerva House in the heart of the city, 19 partners and 85 staff work with a variety of world class businesses to deliver on projects involving Banking & Finance, Financial Disputes and Regulation, Restructuring, Corporate, Regulatory, Dispute Resolution, Residential Development, Employment, Construction and Real Estate.

Notable successes over the last twelve months include advising Dr. Oetker on the purchase of Alsa baking and desert business, advising US company Asure Software Inc., on the acquisition of the entire issued share capital of OccupEye Limited.

Head of the Leeds office, Andrew Johnson said: “The office has enjoyed huge growth over recent months, hitting the 100 employee mark at the start of this year with nearly half of that growth being in the last 12 months alone.

“We believe our people form the bedrock of our success. Our Corporate team for instance were named as the most active team of dealmakers in Yorkshire in 2018 and recently received recognition as the leading M&A legal adviser by deal volume for 2018 in a report by Experian MarketIQ.

“To be able to attract so much high quality talent to the team is fantastic and I am sure that the next twelve months will see further growth in the team with bigger and better deals.”

Gateley has also taken on new solicitors Rakhshinda Nazir and Jayne Addison via The Law Society’s Women Returners Programme, which aims to support those who are looking to return to the legal profession and those who wish to update their skills to develop their careers.

Recent new faces to the Leeds office include the appointment of real estate partner, Barbara Rollin, financial disputes resolution partner, Roger McCourt and the launch of the Commerce, Technology and Media team with partner Rob Lucas last summer. The Leeds office will also be sponsoring this year’s Tour de Yorkshire in May.
