Expertise

Jose specialises in corporate, banking and commercial law with extensive domestic and cross-border experience in corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, banking transactions and commercial contracts. He also has several years’ practical experience providing company secretarial advice to companies.

He is a qualified Abogado in Spain and a qualified Solicitor in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, England and Wales. He was the first Spanish lawyer to qualify in Northern Ireland as a Solicitor, and in 2022 was appointed Honorary Vice Consul of Spain in Belfast.

Jose is passionate about international trade and shipping law, and he has been a member of the Irish Maritime Law Association since 2013 and he is also the current Secretariat of the Consular Association of Northern Ireland.

Moreover, he also provides specialist advise on Spanish and private international law, in particular, for the sale and purchase of properties abroad and for the resolution of complex multijurisdictional probate and inheritance matters.

Experience

  1. Advising an Irish energy company on the sale of the UK’s largest solar PV transaction and co-located energy storage capacity to a global energy company.
  2. Acting, as part of the international legal team of a NYSE-listed company on its $3.15bn valves and controls business sale to an USA global technology and engineering company in the industrial, commercial, and residential markets.
  3. Advising an international publishing company on their IP/ IT, software and technology commercial contracts.
  4. Acting, as part of the legal team of a Spanish oil company, on its maritime contracts and demurrage claims.
  5. Advising on the re-financing of several projects for housing associations in Northern Ireland.
