The global private equity industry remains resilient.
In the UK, according to Experian, the private equity market enjoyed a fruitful year in 2018, with a 16% upturn in buy-outs and a 14% increase in the number of early-stage investments. Low interest rates and easy access to debt funding supported this uplift in activity. However, what happens going forward to deal volume is dominated by Brexit and the threat of a no-deal exit.
What remains as strong as ever is the role that private equity firms play within the UK economy in supporting growth and delivering enhanced returns. Private equity backed IPOs have outperformed non-private equity backed IPOs between 1 January 2009 and 31 December 2017, according to research published by the BVCA in association with PWC.
