Expertise

Niall acts on a range of banking and finance matters, specialising in leveraged and acquisition finance. He acts for a range of UK banks, debt funds, financial institutions, and corporate borrowers.

Niall also has experience with distressed debt, restructuring and insolvency cases for creditors, debtors, and insolvency practitioners.

Before joining Gateley, Niall spent a number of years working in the finance department of one of Ireland’s leading firms.

Niall is qualified to practice in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and has a Diploma in Finance Law from the Law Society of Ireland.

Niall was a named author of the 2025 UK chapter of Legal 500’s Lending & Secured Finance guide.

Experience

1. Advising a syndicate of lenders in connection with £130,000,000 of facilities made available to a UK PLC with a number of foreign subsidiaries in its group.
2. Acting for a mezzanine lender in connection with a restructure of a UK wide restaurant group.
3. Advising a bank on a £20,000,000 loan in connection with the acquisition of a retail park in the UK.
4. Advising a syndicate of lenders on a finance transaction relating to various student accommodation sites in the UK.
5. Advising the supervisors of a scheme of arrangement of a mutual society.
