Based in Leeds but working nationally, Oliver is regularly instructed to advise insolvency practitioners, boards of directors, lenders, private equity funds and individuals on a wide range of advisory, transactional and contentious restructuring matters. 

Oliver particularly enjoys complex, multifaceted assignments, which give him the opportunity to work with different stakeholders and manage competing interests, often under time-pressure, in order to deliver the best results for his clients. 

Prior to joining Gateley, Oliver trained and qualified at a leading independent law firm in Leeds.

Experience

  1. Advised NGI Systems & Solutions Ltd on the first creditor-proposed Part 26A restructuring plan, which was also the first restructuring plan to be sanctioned outside of London. 
  2. Acting for office holders, as well as trade and private equity purchasers based in the UK and internationally, in respect of insolvency transactions across multiple sectors including hospitality, food and drink, energy and infrastructure, construction, professional services and regulated finance. 
  3. Advised the liquidators of a company which had engaged in a c.£40m MTIC fraud, as well as the trustees in bankruptcy of its founder, in respect of a complex asset tracing and recovery exercise, which included actions in England & Wales, Hong Kong, Singapore and the USA and involved freezing and proprietary orders in multiple jurisdictions. 
  4. Regularly providing advice to management companies, freeholders, leaseholders and claimants in respect of the Building Safety Act 2022, including directors’ duties advice, association tests, corporate structuring, and litigation and enforcement strategy. 
  5. Advised liquidators on a significant exercise of recovering void dispositions, which led to 8-figure recoveries and a reported High Court judgement providing guidance on discrete points of law relating to void dispositions. 
  6. Worked as of part a global team advising on the purchase of the business and assets of a major telecoms business, the Russian owners of which are subject to global sanctions.
  7. Acted for the administrators of a pharmacy group in respect of the sale of its business, including obtaining NHS consents / approvals and dealing with the transfer of more than 20 leasehold and freehold properties.
