James is a solicitor within the construction team at Gateley Legal. He acts for a range of clients including housebuilders, developers, contractors, sub-contractors and property owners in all aspects of dispute resolution including adjudication, mediation and court proceedings.

James has experience as a litigator acting for both claimants and defendants across a wide range of construction related disputes. He provides advice to clients on all types of construction disputes including payment and variation claims, delay and extensions of time, loss and expense, as well as claims relating to defective design and workmanship disputes.

James also provides support to senior members of the team dealing with complex high value claims in the Technology and Construction Court relating to major building defects and fire safety and cladding issues.

I help clients resolve a broad range of disputes in a commercial, pragmatic and cost-effective manner with a focus on settling disputes by alternative dispute resolution.

Experience

  1. Acting for a national housebuilder relating to a contractor’s breach of contract which resulted in the successful resistance of the contractor’s three high value attempts at adjudication.
  2. Advising developers in relation to fire cladding defects in building façade systems and subsequent remediation claims, following the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
  3. Acting for a national housebuilder in relation to a contractor’s high value liquidated damages claim, assessing the contractual position and advising on potential avenues of rebuttal including mitigation by way of a formal extension of time request.
