Nick’s marathon effort for Alzheimer’s Research UK

Nick Wheeler, a chartered engineer from Gateley Smithers Purslow, completed the 2024 Leeds Marathon.

Despite the gruelling two-mile uphill climb known as Otley Chevin (almost 18 miles into the race), Nick crossed the finish line in just under four hours.

Nick was running in support of Alzheimer’s Research UK. He said: “I decided to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK, because I have a family member with the disease and I can see how it affects not just the individual, but also those closest to them and their carers. It can be a devastating disease that is becoming more and more prevalent. I want to do something to help Alzheimer’s Research to find out what can be done to set back the onset of the disease and, eventually, find a cure.”
