The imposition of tariffs on nations across the world by the United States has created an opportunity for the UK and the rest of Europe to rewire its global trading relationships, according to the panel at our annual Economic and Political Outlook Forum.

The panel, chaired by BBC Radio 4 host Justin Webb and featuring BBC chief international correspondent Lyse Doucet OBE, economist Roger Bootle and James Talbot, executive director at the Bank of England, took part in a lively discussion at the iconic Mansion House in front of more than 300 clients, business leaders and colleagues.

As well as the topic of tariffs, the panel also spoke about the impact on businesses of ongoing – and future – global conflicts and the UK’s place in the global economy, as well as sharing their thoughts on what the Government could do to support its pursuit of growth ahead of the upcoming budget.

The evening was the flagship event in our Leaders’ Programme, which offers senior business leaders a unique opportunity to gain insight, explore global trends, connect with peers, and discuss the strategic themes impacting their organisations in an exclusive environment.

Reflecting on the night, Rod Waldie, CEO at Gateley, said: “Every business leader is acutely aware of the macro risks the world faces on a daily basis, so it was fascinating to hear the thoughts and insights of an incredibly knowledgeable panel as they discussed geopolitics, economics and domestic policy.

“Our Leaders’ Programme is the perfect example of how we delight our clients by adding additional value to them and their teams and we hope that our guests took away some valuable insight from the evening. Thank you to everybody who joined us, and to the panel for their time, we look forward to doing it all over again next year.”
