We have strengthened our Leeds office with the appointment of two new legal directors as the business continues to grow our corporate and real estate practices.

Kate McLean joins the corporate team and brings extensive experience advising on a wide range of corporate transactions involving mergers and acquisitions, private equity, and reorganisations and shareholder arrangements, and will provide additional senior resource to both clients and colleagues. Her arrival follows the appointment of corporate partner Jonathan Pollard and solicitor Cordelia Stephens last year, further strengthening our growing corporate practice in the region.

In recent months, the corporate team in the city has advised Indian-headquartered KPIT Technologies Limited (KPIT) on the acquisition of the Engineering Solutions business of Caresoft Global, Yorkshire-based Spoon Cereals on its recent investment from Finance Yorkshire and Outco Limited on its acquisition of Magtec Electric Gates.

Brendan McGilloway joins the real estate team from Deloitte Legal, where he was previously associate director. He has also held roles at Eversheds Sutherland, CMS and Addleshaw Goddard and will support real estate partners James Sargent and Miranda Stirling in dealing with investment, development and asset management matters.

These senior appointments further build on Gateley’s continued investment in leadership and expertise in the region. Last year, the Group made seven internal promotions in the office, including the promotion of Stirling to partner.

Roger McCourt, partner and Leeds office head, said: “These appointments are a sign of the confidence that we have in the region. Leeds is a city on the up and is the largest financial and professional services hub in the UK outside London and we are pleased to be growing alongside it. Kate and Brendan are highly-experienced lawyers who will make a very positive impact on our client offering and support our strategic ambitions to expand our corporate and real estate practices.”

In addition to the senior hires, Gateley Legal has also welcomed four new paralegals into our Property platform in Leeds – Will Stewardson, Maisie Robey, Nikhil Chohan and Joseph McDonagh – as we continue to invest in the next generation of Yorkshire legal talent.
