Paul joined the surety team at Gateley Vinden in 2023 and was appointed Director of Surety Services in May 2025.
He has over 20 years of experience in commercial management, specialising for the last 10 years as a claims consultant supporting clients such as Galliford Try, Siemens, Babcock and Costain engaged under various UK and European standard and bespoke contract forms, principally working in the construction, rail and power transmission and generation sectors.
How do you help clients?
I assist our surety clients by providing expert loss adjustment services through all stages of a bond claim, from initial instruction and investigation of liability, through claim management strategy, quantum assessment and loss mitigation, to final settlement and release. I regularly facilitate liability recovery on behalf of our clients against the principal debtor and any indemnitor entities.
Experience
- Management and settlement of performance bond claims as notified against prominent insolvent principals such as Henry Construction Projects, ARJ Construction and ISG (up to £15m per claim).
- Investigation and assessment of liability on local authority legacy ‘Taking in Charge’ s.38 and s.278 bond claims.
- Facilitated, working with Gateley Legal, an indemnity settlement involving multiple surety clients, negotiating with the former directors and indemnitors of an insolvent principal.
- Managed bond run-off on behalf of a surety client in conjunction with brokers and underwriters.
- Assisted a surety client with cash cover final accounting to mitigate future liability risks.
