Mike is a Chartered Building Surveyor with significant experience in domestic and commercial surveying services, insurance claims, design and specification, contract administration, defects diagnosis, party wall, expert services and health and safety.

Mike is a recognised leading surveyor and project manager within the insurance industry and his dedication and commitment to tasks and ability to adapt to any situation ensures a high level of service for his clients.

Mike was promoted to Midlands Regional Director in June 2015 and was previously responsible for growing a team of graduate to experienced chartered surveyors in both the insurance and private sectors.

As Commercial Director since May 2024, Mike is responsible for driving revenue growth, maximizing profitability, and developing business strategies with existing and new clients nationally. Mike oversees sales, marketing, and business development teams to identify market opportunities, set pricing, and execute growth plans for the long-term sustainability of the business.

He is also a board director at Gateley Smithers Purslow.

How do you help clients?

Having joined Gateley Smithers Purslow as a postgraduate in 2008, I have been given the opportunity to develop my industry experience throughout the UK across a range of sectors and projects. I have built my knowledge on the intricacies and nuances specific to different areas of work, and I ensure this is shared with clients to their benefit.

Having advised on a diverse range of interesting and complex projects during my career to date, I now regularly support clients on more than “the standard” project, often advising them on particularly complex reinstatement or remediation projects, providing suitable value engineering advice to allow their projects to progress and ensuring that the complexities don’t lead to project delays or loss in value.

As well as recognising the importance of delivering the best possible outcomes to our clients, I will always prioritise providing clear and regular communication, and a first-class service each and every time.

Experience

  1. Managing the demolition of a high-rise block of flats for in London following a large fire which included heavy media interest (2024).
  2. Project managing the demolition and re-build of a block of flats in Bedford for 24 owner occupiers (£3.5m; 2022-2025).
  3. Design, project management and contract administration of a large fire damaged pub and restaurant in Leicestershire (£1.5m; 2022-2023).
  4. Restoration and re-build of a community centre and new doctors’ surgery in Nottinghamshire (£1.2m; 2023-2025).
  5. Managing large-scale flood remediation schemes throughout the Midlands and Cumbria but specifically including restoration of a flood damaged Leicestershire primary school within three months, including a project spend of £750,000 (2025).
