Expertise
Max is a partner in the corporate unit at Gateley in the Birmingham office. He has broad experience of advising on all types of corporate transaction, including acquisitions and disposals, joint ventures and group reorganisations.
Particular sectors and areas of focus for Max are:
- hotels and hospitality;
- operational real estate, such as care homes, student accommodation and BTR assets;
- corporate transactions for property investors and developers;
- building, property and facilities management;
- infrastructure; and
- family-owned businesses and family offices.
Max joined Gateley in 2022 following stints at large international firms in both London and Birmingham.
He is co-head of the Gateley sector team for each of Corporate Real Estate, Hotels and Facilities Management.
Experience
- Advised the shareholders of Slademain Limited on its sale and the sale of its subsidiary Argus Fire, to Mitie Group, a deal shortlisted for Deal of the Year at the Midlands Insider Media and Rainmakers deal awards ceremonies in 2025.
- Advised M Group on the acquisition of Aran, a provider and installer of energy efficiency and managed retrofit programmes to local authorities and social housing providers.
- Advised Interesting Hotels group on the acquisition of Netherwood Hotel & Spa.
- Advised BLS UK Hotels on the acquisition of Trefeddian Hotel, Aberdovey.
- Advised on the sale of the entire issued share capital of Newbury Park Hotels Ltd to Whitbread Group PLC.
- Advised Miller Homes on the acquisition of St Modwen Homes.
- Advised Godwin on a large joint venture with Brookfield to acquire a portfolio of BTR assets.
- Advised Clowes Developments (UK) Limited on the acquisition of Derby County Football Club.
- Advised the shareholders of Payment Assist Ltd on the sale of the business to Manx Ventures.
- Advised a confidential client on the acquisition of an SPV owning a large portfolio of residential properties in Central London.
