UK Sports Law Competition

Friday 13 June 2025

We are excited to confirm that entries are now open for 2025’s UK Sports Law Competition (UKSLC). The competition will take place on Friday 13 June 2025 at the iconic Etihad Stadium, home to Manchester City Football Club.

How does it work?

At the UKSLC, students will compete in teams of two and will be tested on their ability to think commercially when faced with fictitious topical legal problems within the sports industry. The judging panel will consist of industry experts, including lawyers, CEOs, commercial managers, and directors from various sports organisations and companies.

What can participants win?

There will be attractive prizes for the winning students, including work experience at Gateley Legal. It is also a great networking opportunity for students and will look great on their CVs, particularly when applying for training contracts.

Negotiation masterclass

The UK Sports Law Competition agenda includes a negotiation masterclass overview. This short masterclass is designed to give attendees a brief introduction to some of the key components of negotiation.

The masterclass will examine the different types of negotiation, how to identify them and how to adjust one’s behaviour in a way that is appropriate to the situation. Attendees will also be introduced to the differences between selling and negotiation and how to trade conditionally, which will allow them to maximise what they take from their negotiations.

Everyone will leave the masterclass with knowledge that they will be able to use immediately.
