Having worked as a quantity surveyor since 2006, Harman has worked on a range of interesting and challenging projects. Harman is a self-motivated and committed professional with experience in both the public and private sectors, working as an employer’s agent/ contract administrator/ quantity surveyor. He is experienced in all aspects across the project lifecycle pre- and post-contract.
Harman leads the team in Leicester and Birmingham on project management and quantity surveying services. He has also operated as a monitoring surveyor with a range of high-profile banks across several developments of varying size and value.
Harman is experienced in the administration of JCT form of contracts, Scottish Building Contracts, NEC form of contracts and bespoke contracts/ development agreements. He is experienced in education, residential (both high rise apartments and traditional housing), healthcare, commercial, industrial, and leisure sectors.
Harman is a RICS APC Chair and Counsellor and is a STEM Ambassador and Mentor. He has a passion and enthusiasm for the industry, and he always stays in touch with emerging themes, challenges and industry benchmarks. He shares knowledge, skills and best practice with his teams internally and is always looking to ensure that best practice is being realised.
How do you help clients?
I ensure projects stay on budget across all stages of a project by completing bespoke feasibility studies, cost estimates and cost plans and further undertaking valuations, assessing variations and producing bespoke cost reports suited to our individual clients.
I work with clients to agree suitable contracts for their projects based on their objectives and strategic goals. These range from JCT, SBCC and NEC forms of contracts along with bespoke contracts/ development agreements.
I am experienced in traditional, design and build and partnering procurement models and discuss these through with clients to ensure the project is let correctly.
I develop and help implement processes that are fit for purpose and guarantee high standards of service which is delivered to programme.
I ensure that I understand our client’s individual goals and objectives and I also review appointment documents and collateral warranties to ensure that we are capturing scope correctly with our clients.
By leading our internal APC programme for our candidates and our general CPD programme, I ensure our clients benefit from a highly-skilled and motivated team that can deliver results.
Experience
- Advising Wellingborough School on their new build design and technology block. This will be a state-of-the-art facility and will help the school to deliver ICT, Food Technology and Design Technology to their students with cutting edge resources. This project is being delivered under a JCT Design and Build 2016 contract.
- Advising University of Wolverhampton on their School of Architecture and the Built Environment which was the conversion of a former brewery site which was heavily contaminated. The facility now provides space for over 1,200 students and is 85,000ft2 of teaching and learning spaces.
- Advising University of Birmingham on their Central Teaching Laboratories which involved the refurbishment of their existing engineering building to bring up to education curriculum standards. This involved the construction of a strong wall and floor. The second project was the development of a new build teaching laboratory which was a new state-of-the-art facility to support the latest methods in laboratory teaching in STEM subjects across the University.
- Advising City of Wolverhampton Council on three mixed-tenure housing developments in Wolverhampton, including 300 homes built on brownfield land across 3 sites, consisting of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, as well as a 14-bed mental health facility and 7-bed autism unit. These projects were delivered under bespoke development agreements.
- Advising HUB Group on Hoola, Tidal Basin Road and Rehearsal Rooms, North Acton. Hoola was a development consisting of 360 high-quality apartments in London’s Royal Docks and was a glass clad, twin tower development of one-, two- and three-bed apartments. The scheme also incorporated underground car parking and retail space at ground floor. This was delivered under a JCT Design and Build 2016 contract. Rehearsal Rooms, North Acton, was a PRS scheme consisting of 173 apartments across two blocks of 16 and 12 storeys, with a central link and ground floor retail rental space. This was delivered under a JCT Design and Build 2016 contract.
- Advising Plymouth Community Homes on a refurbishment programme across 302 of their properties, including installation, testing and commissioning of heating packs and electrical rewiring, structural repairs, re-roofing, cladding external walls, re-plastering, window replacements and doors, kitchen and bathroom replacements, some internal reconfigurations, and external works. These works required careful planning ensuring minimal disruption to existing residents.
- Advising Erskine Developments Ltd on Erskine Cottages Phases 1-4, a new build housing development to replace existing housing provision for ex-war veterans delivered across a phased programme.
- Advising City College Plymouth on the refurbishment of their existing engineering blocks to create new teaching spaces for their students.
